Bar Bending Schedule for Neck Column | BBS of Neck Column | Estimation of Steel reinforcement in Neck Column:
Bar Bending schedule plays a very important role in estimating quantities of steel reinforcement required for the building. Before getting into Bar bending schedule for Neck Column, I refer you to learn the how to Calculate Bar Bending Schedule (basics) and how to adopt Concrete Cover for Steel reinforcement.
What is Neck column | Definition:
The part of the column which is present in sub structure is called neck column. (Column in substructure) Well, the reason for this dividing column into two parts is to make ease in understanding the Bar Bending schedule clearly.
QUANTITY OF REINFORCEMENT (STEEL) REQUIRED FOR NECK COLUMN OR Bar Bending Schedule for Neck Column:
In this post, I am finding out the Estimation of Steel reinforcement in Neck Column/ Bar Bending Schedule for Neck column. For this, I considered a plan as shown below.
Steps to be followed while finding out the total wt. of steel required for constructing Neck columns: –
Neck column reinforcement calculation is divided into two parts Main bars and stirrups.
Part-I:- Main Bars
- Check the Length of Main bars
- Add the overlap length and bend length to the neck column.
- Adopt Dia of Main Bars
- Calculate the total length of main bar.
- Find the total wt of Main bars.
Part-II:- Stirrups
- Deduce the concrete cover from all sides of tie/stirrups and find out the length of stirrup.
- Adopt Dia of Stirrup.
- Calculate the length of stirrup including hook.
- Then Find out the total no. of stirrups.
- Find the total length of stirrups
- Lastly, Calculate the total wt. of stirrups.
Length, Dia and No. of Bars are adopted and designed by the structural engineer by executing the load analysis.
To make it clear I included almost all types of columns. Well C1, C3, C4, C6, C9 (Square Columns) are similar and C2, C8 (T-Column) C5 is Circular Column, C7 is L Type column.
